Chef Mike Connetta's biography:
Michael A. Conetta
Executive Chef, Waterman Grille

Executive Chef Michael A. Conetta, a lifelong Rhode Islander, knew at an early age that he wanted a career in the culinary arts.

Under the tutelage of some of the region’s top chefs, Chef Michael learned the rewards of hard work, the creativity that comes with culinary diversity and the merits of mastering all jobs in the kitchen.

Most recently, Chef Michael, 27, was named Executive Chef of the Waterman Grille in Providence, an upscale yet casual eatery with a focus on small plates and comfort food using only the freshest seasonal ingredients, organic when possible.

Chef Michael draws his inspiration for The Waterman Grille menu from the property’s natural feeling – exposed brick, the flowing river – to create a contemporary yet traditional flair. The Waterman Grille is the perfect spot for a business lunch or after-work drinks and dinner.

In addition to the American bistro-style dishes, the Waterman Grille features a food-friendly boutique wine list with 25 reds, 25 whites.

Chef Michael began working in the food industry at age 15. At age 21, after honing his skills at various restaurants and private catering companies, Chef Michael was named Sous Chef at The Holiday Inn in Providence, under the direction of Chef Sal Braga.

Chef Michael credits his mentors – including Chef Sal Braga of the Holiday Inn and Chef Casey Riley of Newport Harbor Corporation -- for the hands-on experience and diligent work ethic they instilled in him, both of which helped lead him to his most recent post at the Waterman Grille.

Prior to the post of Executive Chef of the Waterman Grille, Chef Michael served as Chef of Catering Operations for Gatehouse Catering, which was acquired by Newport Harbor Corporation in 2006, along with the Gatehouse Restaurant. The Waterman Grille is scheduled to open in April 2007 at 4 Richmond Square in Providence.

Chef Michael resides in Cranston with his wife, Meghan, and their 3-year-old daughter, Talia.

New photography at The Mixing Table!
Dan Schwartz is a writer, photographer and advertising representative for Providence Monthly and East Side Monthly. When capturing images, he looks for natural synchronicities and subtle archetypal forms that are not readily appreciated at first glance. These photos, which come from the show Natural Geometry, display pairings that reveal unusual similarities, like the spacing between a group of ducks in Narragansett Bay and the rusty rivets of a train trellis. While connecting the photographs is interesting, each work also stands on its own. Different themed shows will be rotated at The Mixing Table, with the next one focused on the architecture and scenery of Providence’s East Side. The photographs are available for purchase. If interested please contact Dan directly at dans@providenceonline.com.
